Escape from Florida

For those of you who have been following the blog the last couple weeks, I have good news.  No more writings about repairs, waiting, signing papers, etc.  We finally left Lazydays this afternoon and are now stopped for the night at Crooked River State Park in St. Marys, Georgia.  We didn't get out of Lazydays until 3pm and headed down the road.

There was a moment of excitement when the door to the outside TV came open driving down I-4 just west of Orlando, FL.  I noticed it when I was making my mirror check every few minutes.  Gerry got out when we stopped and locked the door down and it was clear sailing from that point on.

We went through Orlando during their rush hour and made very good time.  The traffic was slow in spots, but moved very good overall.  We didn't run into any crazy drivers like we usually do in the Orlando area and I appreciated that very much.  Later on we breezed through Jacksonville and made great time.

It was a 230 mile day for us and we were able to pull into the campground here in time to get the last pull through spot.  It is water/electric only and the electric is only 30 amp.  This will be a learning experience for us since the MH has a 50 amp service built in.  It will be interesting to see what appliances, a/c can be run at the same time.  The site at the campground in Tucson that we have used for the past 6 years is a 30 amp site and we may have to switch to a 50 amp site.

We have camped here a number of times over the past 19 years and for the most part enjoy the campground.  During a Fall trip in 2005 we camped here with Carolyn & Mann and had waterfront access.
Here are a few pictures from that experience.

No I won't go, it's wet.

Time to set the table for dinner.

Now, where did the welcome mat go?

Let's ride the bike

Mann after the storm

The last time we were here the pond was full of water, possibly since we got about 8-10 inches of rain while we were here.

This time, the pond is bone dry.  Tropical storm Beryl came through here last week and they had a ton of rain, but it must have missed the pond.

Guess what, we are once again getting rained on while we are here.  Not like last time, but still rain.

On another stop here, we met this little fella right next to our water and electric hookup.  You never know what you will see in Georgia.  It is one of the most deadly snakes due to the potency of it's poison.  I didn't know that and flipped it into the bushes.  Live and learn!
