Guadalajara Bar & Grill

Al & Sharon joined us tonight at the Guadalajara Bar & Grill for dinner tonight.  As usual, we got there early for happy hour and beat the crowd.  We walked in and were seated immediately, the waiter took our drink order and by the time he came back we placed our food order.  We were surprised how quickly the food arrived and then had to stall around long enough to hear the Mariachi band play.  They usually start at 6:00pm, but tonight they started about 30 minutes earlier than usual.  Sharon got in on the act and we almost lost her to one of the band members.

Sharon peeking around blue pole & part of the band.
The lady who makes the salsa also came to our table quickly and made us a double batch of salsa from scratch.  It was a little spicy, but we all attacked it and almost finished off the bowl.  I could go there and just have a beer and eat the salsa and be happy.  The meals are huge and everyone had some left after dinner.  Lunch on Thursday will be great.

It sure was yummy.

We all were tired out and headed back home.  We dropped them off at their campground and went back to ours.  Now we are watching the new Survivor series and it is a mismash.  Boys against girls and the girls lost the first challenge.  Now they are "talking" about the day's events.  They sure are catty.  Should be an interesting survivor season if they all don't get together.  One girl has a broken wrist and was eliminated without them even taking a vote.

Goldshop, Geocaching and Guadalajara Restaurant

Gerry left a piece of jewelry at a goldsmith's shop a week or so ago and today was the day to go back and see what they could do to repair it.  At first they didn't think it was repairable, but now they think it is possible.  She left it with them until next week and hopefully they can fix it as good as new.

We decided to geocache a little while we were in that area of town and set out to find some caches.  We began our search and found 7 caches in short order, even though they were a few miles apart.  One cache was a five gallon bucket buried in the ground in an alley behind some houses.  They had disguised the lid to look like rocks, but since we knew what to look for, it stood out very clearly to us.

Another cache was found in an Art statue in front of the racetrack.  We had to look for this cache for a while before we found it.  Then as usual, we were surprised to see how obvious the cache was.  Some are like that and others are very difficult to find and we have to register them as a did not find.  DNF.  I hate those.  There are a number of these art exhibits throughout Tucson in various places and I think they add a lot to the town and area.

The last three times we have eaten in a restaurant we have run into people from the park eating there also.  Tonight was no exception.  We like the Guadalajara restaurant and like to get there early for the Happy Hour specials and stay long enough to listen to the Mariarchi musicians play their tunes.  Just before they started to play Ron C dropped by our table after waiting 45 minutes to get a table of their own.  Friends from Tennessese joined them and were enjoying the restaurant also.  We got our fill of beer and food and barely were able to waddle out of there.  Great time as usual.

Cousin Sharon and Al are thinking about taking their 5th wheel to a ranch south of Willcox and watching the ranch for a month.  They are going to go there on Saturday to check it out and asked us to go along.  It is about 100 miles one way and I am not sure we are up to that long of a drive.  We will have to wait and see how it goes in the morning.

Time to hit the hay after watching the Gold Rush show.

Mariachi Band

Fellow campers Judy & Steve are planning on leaving CCRV on Sunday and heading for Yuma, AZ for a visit.  They were the ones who told us about how nice the Guadalajara Cafe was and how much they enjoyed it.  It was only fitting that we have dinner with them there before they leave.

It is an interesting restaurant and they serve huge meals so take an appetite with you if go there.  Once you have been seated and ordered your huge happy hour drinks, a server comes around and makes salsa to your taste right at the table.  The bowls are huge and it would take a week to eat a bowl full of their salsa.  It worked out well to have it prepared there since I don't like  very hot salsa and the other three do.  We were all happy with the selection.

The restaurant tends to be very loud once it fills up and it looks like it does that every night.  They had heaters outside for those waiting in line to get in.  We were seated as soon as we got there.  Great timing.  Inside they had  few chairs and benches to sit in also and Judy & Steve took advantage of that as we were leaving.

They had a three man mariachi band wandering around playing Mexican music.  They would come up to each table and play, but would not take any tips.  We enjoyed the music and atmosphere and it brought back memories of living in Costa Rica for those many years.  Now we have to get our passports and head down there for a visit.

After dinner we returned to our motorhome and had a few drinks and chatted for a couple hours.  It was a very pleasant evening and we hated to see it end and for them to be leaving on Sunday.
