Dinner at the Ranch

My cousin Sharon and her husband Al have been ranch sitting the past month south of Wilcox, AZ and loving it.  They have to feed a couple goats and sheep twice a day and other than that, just relax and look at the beautiful Chiricahua mountains to the east of them.  We joined them for dinner at their place before they leave in the morning for Illinois.  Al fixed some hamburgers and brats on the grill and we brought sides of coleslaw and potato salad.  It was a simple but very tasty dinner and the beer that went along with it was nice and cold.

Their relief ranch sitters pulled in about 2 hours before we got there and were settled in for the next month.  They are a young couple from Maine with three children and have embarked on a year long journey in their 5th wheel to see the country.  Home schooling must be in order for their children, since they looked like they ranged in age from 9-12 or so.  We didn't get to meet them, but the children were already exploring the area around them.

We had to make it an early evening so they could get some sleep before their early morning departure for Elephant Butte State Park in New Mexico.  We were also facing an 1 1/2 hour drive back to our park.  Have a great trip back to Illinois you guys and stay safe out there.  Hope to see you next Fall out here in the great Southwest.

Saturday it was 93 degrees here and we had the a/c on in the motor home.  Sunday night it was cool enough that we had to close the windows and turn on the electric space heater to take the chill off.  I'll take the cool weather every time, but they are calling for mid 70s this week for a few days.  Love it.

They say the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree and my son proved that was the case today.  He sent us an email saying a man offered him a large sum for the BMW and that he was willing to trade him a Ford F-100 pickup in the deal.  Larry Jr. has been looking for a good used pickup and he loves the BMW so that was a shock to me.  I reminded him how nice the car was and an old truck wasn't that hard to find.  Finally, after some reflection it dawned on me that it was April Fools Day and he got me.  Now I will have to work on a payback for next year.  NOTE:  For those who don't know me very well I have a huge reputation as a practical joker and this time the joke was on me.  If you can't take it, don't dish it out are my feelings.    Jr. 1  Dad 0

At least he didn't get me as bad as he did his son, Grant.  Read his blog The Pondering Dad   for April 1, 2012 entry.
