Bat Woman

The other night when Gerry got home from the hospital she went into the kitchen to get a late dinner.  She noticed the sticky bug strip we have there by the window to catch all the little knats and insects wasn't in it's proper place.  She saw it on the kitchen counter and started to reach for it to return it to it's proper place.  That's when she shouted "whoa Nelly!!" or something like that.  Keep in mind this is a family oriented blog, so I have taken some literary license.  She was talking to our daughter, Barbara, at the time and her shriek scared both of them.  There it was!!

Yes, a bat had gotten into the kitchen and was stuck to the sticky strip by it's wing and leg.  Gerry thought it might get loose, so she retreated from the kitchen in a flash.  Finally she got up enough nerve to return and the bat had managed to get loose from the strip and was flopping around in the sink.  Out came a Cool Whip container and she covered the bat and put a lid under the container and the bat.  Next came a coffee cup full of water to hold down the container.  She and Barbara were laughing so hard they were squirming around.  I won't go into more detail on this, but use your imagination.   Her last words to Barbara were that the task of getting the bat out of the house would be transferred to me when I got home.  It's always nice to be wanted and needed.

The next afternoon ( Wed ) I took the bat outside and placed it on the ground to fly away.  It moved about 4 ft and stopped.  Later Gerry looked for it and it had disappeared.  I hope it made it to safety and can come back and eat some more of those pesty bugs.

So, Gerry managed to get into trouble even though I wasn't around.  At least it wasn't one of her worst fears coming into the room in a slinky motion.  That would have put her into the hospital bed next to me.

She does live an exciting life.

  1. Gerry, you're a brave brave person. I would have jumped in the car and spent the night in the chair next to you.

  3. Well, that's one up on us! We've never had a bat problem. But we did have a slinky one last evening. Not a real problem, though. As we drove into our place about 8:30pm, we had to stop while a two-foot (probably) rattler crossed the road and directly into our front yard. We were very careful moving from car to house!
