Lousy Internet Service

Well, we fell into the communications bottomless pit the past 4 days here in Florence, Oregon.  Our AT&T cellphone doesn't have any service here at the campground and the Verizon service is the worst we have run into.  Forget the Verizon Mifi card working since it is running so slow, it's worse than having dial up service.  To make matters worse, we only get 6 tv channels and two of them are the CW broadcast.

We can use the wifi here at the Elks Lodge campground if we walk up to the small recreation hall.  Then we can get good service but I don't want to hang around there all the time posting.

We've taken in the local Three Rivers Casino a couple times and are a little ahead financially which is always a good thing.  Gerry enjoys playing the slots and likes to win but enjoys playing for as long as she can for her donations.  Breaking even is a bonus for her.

The other night we went out to dinner in the old town part of Florence and when we left the restaurant it was about twilight.  A quick tour of the area was the plan and we took a short drive along the river.

Finally, we left the area and I was driving down RT 101 when a policeman pulled me over.   Oooopppss!  He asked if I knew why he stopped me and I said I didn't have the faintest idea why.  That was when he pointed out that I was driving without my headlights on.  Since the lights are set up to come on automatically, I thought there was a problem with the switch.  Nope, the lights weren't set to the auto mode.  It seems when Gerry took the brake buddy out she accidentally turned the auto setting off.   Oh, boy!   Well, to make this a short story, the policeman must have met his quota for the night and accepted our explanation without a fine or anything.  He also agreed we would have noticed we didn't have any lights when we got out of the well lit business section.

The next day we went for a ride to check out the Umpqua River Lighthouse.  They have a nice museum there and do tours of the lighthouse.  Check it out if you are in the area.

Last night we felt what seemed like an earthquake and didn't think much about it.  This morning we found out they had a couple temblors nearby.

"A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck at 11:52 p.m. about 330 miles west of Salem. Three smaller aftershocks followed: A magnitude 4.3 quake at 12:01 a.m., a magnitude 5.5 at 3:46 a.m. and a 4.4 quake at 7:46 a.m. Most recently, a 5.9 magnitude quake came at 1:11 p.m."

It looks like we got out of the area in the nick of time for the 1:11pm quake.  Always something interesting going on around us, even though they might not always be a good thing.

All is quiet here at the Elks Lodge RV Park in Keizer, OR where we are stopping for a few days.

That's what we've been doing, how about you?
