We've had very nice weather lately and it was a welcome sight after all those rainy gloomy days. I imagine the weather then was like they have in Oregon a lot of times from the postings I have seen on Oregon. Today was our turn to experience more Oregon weather when thick fog moved in overnight. It is almost noon and the fog is still here at the cabin. Not good.
When I was taking my shower today and drying off, I hit the "buttress" that was holding the skin graft down on my nose. I call it my yellow button, but whatever the name is it came loose from my nose. Keep in mind that this is stitched on and should not have come loose. We made a quick call to the doctor and he said to come on in and have it checked. I hope it isn't another setback for us getting out of here. The doctor did say over the phone that the buttress is only needed for the first 3 or 4 days, so that may be a good sign. We shall know by 2pm today. More to follow. We just returned from the doctor and he said no damage had been done and the graft was healing nicely. It looked good from a graft point of view, but not great from a looks point of view. Hummmmm ---- maybe I will have lost my long term run from being handsome. Shudder!!!
We watched a good movie yesterday called RED and it starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, & John Malkovich. It was a comedy/drama/action movie and was very entertaining so much we may rent it again to see some of the action we missed. I thought it was going to be a story about Russian spies and the communist party. Wrong!
The fog has really settled in on the mountain and actually seems to be worse as the day wears on. Between the fog and rain this won't go down as a great day up here. I imagine the leaves will really begin to turn and fall quickly if this weather continues for a few days. It looks rather stark up here without leaves on the trees and will continue to do so until the first snow fall. By then we hope to be long gone from here and heading for warmer and dryer weather.

Rain & Football
Are you ready for some football? The Packers face the Saints this evening and we are going down to our daughters house to watch the game. She is a Packer and Steeler fan and sometimes roots for the Redskins. It will be nice to see a game that they really play all out to win rather than run in as many players as they can to see how well they do. Of course preseason games are all about conditioning and finding that hidden gem of a player out there.
I know you all must be getting tired of rainy day stories, however if I didn't write about them there wouldn't be anything to write about. Today was another day of heavy rain interspersed with drizzle and showers. Tropical storm Lee sure did linger and take it's time getting up the coast and dumped lots of rain on the East Coast. Our son-in-law called us from a cruise to the Bahamas to make sure we were all safe since his parents in Binghamton, NY were experiencing flooding in the area and his sister was evacuated from her home. Hershey, PA right up the road from us had the worst flooding they have ever experienced. We don't have those kinds of problems but it sure is wet and I hope we don't get any high winds soon or there will be a lot of trees uprooted due to the ground being soaked.
I went out a little this afternoon to see if I could get some pictures of the swollen streams and such but it rained so hard I couldn't roll the window down to take a picture. The cabin looked eerie today and I got a couple shots of it and the meadow across the street. I don't know if the pictures will do justice to how it really looked. Don't try to adjust the color of the pictures since that is fog and mist clouding up the view. It was so thick you could cut it with a butter knife as the saying goes.

This meadow to the right is where we see all the deer and wild turkeys during the early morning or late evening. The turkeys don't always show up, but it is rare that the deer aren't there. One of these days we will see the mother bear and her three cubs, but we aren't anxious to get to close to them.
Now I wish I hadn't sold my jon boat a number of years ago. It could come in handy if this rain doesn't stop soon.
Meanwhile, off to watch the game tonight. Update: Green Bay 42 - New Orleans 34 Final It was a good game until the 2nd half when it slowed down quite a bit. New Orleans goofed when they tried for a first down instead of kicking a field goal. The Packers then took the ball down the field and scored a touchdown. They are both good teams and should meet again in the playoffs.

Earthquake and Fog
Our cabin is about 75 miles from Rockville, MD and they had a 3.6 earthquake centered there today. Now I know a 3.6 isn't much, but I imagine our old neighbors must have wondered what was going on.
We lived in Costa Rica for 6 years and experienced numerous earthquakes over 6.0 and one that was 7.5. Let me tell you something, a 7.5 quake gets your attention. We had 10-15 aftershocks above 5.5 with that one and people were sleeping in parks and their yards. Anywhere but in their house. It just so happened that my niece was visiting with us at that time and we warned her upon her arrival that if a quake hit, to stand in a doorway until it was over. Well, it was just her luck to have the 7.5 quake hit while she was there. She handled it very well but I think it just about scared her to death. She never came back to visit us again. They had t-shirts out the next day saying "7.5 and still alive".
It was hot today and an afternoon thunderstorm passed through and cooled things down a bit. We needed to make a trip down the mountain and on our way back ran into some lite fog which made for some nice photos. The photos were taken about a mile from the cabin and I wish they could capture the scene better than it turned out.
