Palm trees, Planes and Tom Tom

We spend the winter at Cactus Country RV Resort in Tucson, AZ and this has been a big change over year for the park.  They have brought in a new activities coordinator and there have been a large increase in activities available.  Actually, there are so many that we can't keep up with them.  Saturday morning they are having a men's breakfast which is free for all the males in the park.  A couple weeks ago they had a Tea Party for the ladies.

There have been changes to the physical part of the park also, including adding larger luxury sites and now they are planting 100 palm trees in the entrance road and some inside the park.  They delivered some of the trees this morning and already are planting  them.  I awoke to this sight early this am.
Our motorhome is on the left.
Gerry had a hair appointment today and I decided to have her drop me off at the local library.  On our way there we saw some of the planes that are practicing for the air show at Davis Monthan AFB this weekend.  There were some F-18s, helicopters, old WWII planes and others flying over the park and on the drive to the hair dresser we saw this tanker flying with two helicopters and the refueling hoses hanging down from the plane.  That is one huge plane and it was flying so slow it looked like it was going to drop from the sky.

Later in the day a flight of 6 F-18s broke the sound barrier at a low altitude as they were turning in formation.  They broke numerous windows in a shopping center below them and it made the local news.  I guess that will cost the US Gov't some change.

We bought a Tom Tom XXL gps a few years ago and it was time to load a newer mapping system.  The XXL came with free uploads for the life of the system.  A full download is almost 2 gig of data and takes forever on my Verizon aircard and in addition uses up 2/5 of my monthly allowance.  Hence, the trip to the local library.  They had a section where you can bring in your own PC and use their free wireless hookup.  I am glad that I did this since it took almost 1 hour to download the data and then install it on the Tom Tom.  I finished up with the process about 5 minutes before Gerry came to pick me up.

A number of years ago we went into the local library on Captiva Island, FL to pick up our email and that is when we ran into the most uncooperative and nasty librarian we have ever seen.  At that time you had to sign up for computer time and God forbid you go over by 5 seconds.  The librarian resented that we lived outside of Florida and had the nerve to ask to use their computers.  I explained that if she came to Maryland she was welcome to use the Library computer there and she got even nastier.  What a difference from the attitude there and the one in Tucson.  Here they were helpful and even cheerful when you asked them a question.

  1. No, they won't block our view. They are grouping them in the front entrance off of Houghton and then spreading them up the 1/2 mile entrance road. Plus, a few are going in the median strip in the park. Should be very pretty when they grow up.
