Change in plans & One and done.

We were all set to go to the coffee and doughnut function at the clubhouse this morning when our plans went out the window.  That's how it is when you get older and live in a RV fulltime.  

Saturday Gerry was eating a piece of bread from a sub sandwich when she felt a crack and some thing hard in her mouth.  Yep, she broke part of her tooth off and it was irritating her tongue and causing problems.  Rather than put up with it, she decided to get an appointment to see the local dentist at the Desert Dental Group a few miles from here.  She called on Monday and got an appointment for today at 9:30am.  As suspected, she needs a crown on the tooth and is scheduled to have it finished in one day.   They take you in, do all the prep work, make the mold, make the crown and install it in one day.   They also do all that cheaper than what we would pay for it using our local dentist back in Maryland.  

We both had eye doctors appointment for later this month, but my left eye was fading fast and I knew cataract surgery was in the works.  SInce it takes about 3 weeks from start to finish I called to see if I could move my appointment up.  No problem.  I went in today and had the exam and they will be scheduling the surgery much sooner and hopefully we can still get out of here by late April.  I will know more in a couple days what our departure date will be.  

I don't know why it is so important to leave since we haven't decided on what route we are going to take getting back to the East coast, but most likely it will be the southern route mentioned a few days ago.  I'm glad we weren't around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area last night since they had some damaging tornadoes go through there.  It is like running a gauntlet when you cross tornado alley and I must admit it isn't fun.

The sports headlines read "Won & Done" for the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team who beat Kansas last night for the title.  They have a number of players on their team who most likely will play one year and then turn pro.  Their coach recruits them and the players know if they do well it is the quickest way to turn pro.  I think that their scholarships should count until the remaining years of the deal are up.  Schools are limited to a certain number of scholarships and if a player leaves early, then the process starts all over.  I will withdraw the scholarship from the pool and they would have to do with one less free ride.

The NCAA calls them "Student Athletics" and that is a sham.  Many, but not all, skate through the first semester with ricky ticky courses and don't even show up the next semester for classes.  You hear stories all the time about those who don't make it, don't have a degree and are barely getting by.  Kentucky isn't the only school who does this and that is why you see the same schools getting all the best players each year.   At least they made a change that requires the graduation rate to be at least around 50% or lose scholarships.  One school had a 14% graduation rate for African-American athletics.   Pathetic!

OK, enough of that.  I know there are more pressing problems out there than college sports.  

BTW:  The championship game was boring, unlike some of the previous games.  At least Ron C is happy today.  Wildcats this year, Packers the year before.  Life is good for him.  LOL
